Forestry legislation prohibits the export of wood in logs and beams of all native species and establishes rates for the export of processed wood depending on its level of processing (Article 1A and 1C of Law 14/2016 of 30 December – which amends and republishes Law 7/2010 of 13 August – Timber Overvaluation Tax Law ; and revokes Article 6 of the same Law).
The preferred destinations for wood exported from Mozambique are China, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Germany, Dubai, Italy, England, Japan, Germany, United States of America, Taiwan, Reunion Islands, Mauritius, Mayoto Islands, Malawi and Vietnam.
To maintain control of possible cases of smuggling, Mozambique has agreements/memoranda with some countries receiving domestic timber on combating the illegal trade in timber and cooperation in the forest area.
In the last five years, approximately 423 thousand cubic meters of logs were exported and approximately 1600 thousand cubic meters of sawn wood (planks, planks, sleepers, parquet, veneer, furniture pieces and laths).
